DNAngel - Daisuke niwa

Posted by Unknown at 3:49 PM

Daisuke transforms into Dark (usually unwillingly) whenever he experiences feelings of love or intimacy. Daisuke is kind hearted, the opposite of Dark, and is always trying to stop Dark from performing crazy stunts to no avail. Later in the series, Daisuke gradually falls in love with Risa Harada's(his crush) older twin sister, Riku Harada. Riku in turn also has feelings for Daisuke.
He regularly argues with his alter-ego but, expresses concern for Dark when he is in danger. He misses Dark when they are separated in the series through magic. In the anime adaptation, he cries when Dark seals himself and Krad, leaving Daisuke.

Even though he does not look or act it, Daisuke is very perceptive and athletic - capable of jumping from heights that a normal boy could never be capable of. He already had this ability when he was young, it was shown when he jumped over the gate to get Riku's teddy bear.

To hone his skills, his family sets up daily life-threatening trials once he returns home from school. A specialty of this is his gift for lockpicking (or hacking, in the case of electronically activated locks) any kind of lock in succession. His ability of lockpicking was so good that it even suprised Dark.

Daisuke, as a Niwa, has been trained in thievery all his life. He can dodge traps, pick locks, sneak past security, and break into almost any location. However, he prefers to create art, not steal it, which makes him more like a Hikari. Also, his paintings seems to have magical power when one of his paintings become a catalyst in the awakening of the Second Hand of Time. - Credit to entry source -

Also referred to as `Magical Fairy Pelsha' which is another possible translation of the Japanese title. I'd love to rate this one higher, because it is quite an enjoyable title with some interesting touches. To begin with Persia is not that normal a girl. It seems she's been brought up in the wilds of africa, complete with lion companion and amazing physical skills, as well as a very straightforward (albeit naieve about `civilisation') attitude. She's on the plane to Japan when her plane is drawn into the dimension of dreams, which is currently frozen leading to dreams growing very slowly. She is charged with finding `love energy' to rectify the situation, given various magical girl items to help and three tiny kappa (Japanese mythological creature) to guide her and put back on the plane. Of course introducing Persia to Japanese society offers enough opportunity for chaos, but considering she is now a magical girl the possibilities seem limitless.

And to be honest the trip is very good fun. The combination of `young girl' innocence combined with physical and magical abilities offers lots of flexibility. This is especially true because her magical powers seem largely unbounded, seemingly capable of doing anything that could make the episode more entertaining. Likewise the `outsider' learning the ways of Japanese society is always a safe bet for an interesting story. The `quest' element hasn't been too visible yet and there don't seem to be any villains (yay!). At the same time there are some very strange events, for example in episode three she is kidnapped and threatened with death by a pistol wielding murderer. Her response? well, she thinks he just wants to play and he's the one who ends up doing the dodging. Watching a magical girl shooting a handgun (pretty fireworks, being the comment) and then demonstrate her skill at knife-throwing is more than a little off the beaten track for magical girl shows. The problem comes from the fact that this high energy, high humor approach can quickly lead to a sense of unreality and an inability to do subtle moments and atmosphere. This is enhanced by some weak writing, for example Persia has her `female tarzan' moments but they are a bit erratic and unsupported, leading to some confusion about her character. Both her character, her magic, and the story are willing to diverge to provide `humorous' scenes, but this gives a somewhat `broken' feel to the story. Still, it does have moments when it works well, and it is at least entertaining in between. I can't help think it would have been even better if the magical girl staples could have been dropped entirely.

The animation is fairly basic. The character designs are simple both in line and character. The action, movement and effects animation is very basic and the ability to do atmosphere not that strong. The world design seem fairly sketchy and the magical girl aspects pretty corny. This is best demonstrated by her largely undefined magic and dodgy `quest'. On the other hand there is an ability to provide character and energy which really are the core needs for this kind of show. Thus Persia, and some of the minor characters are cute more by virtue of actions and character than appearance, which is not actually an unpleasant fact. The biggest problem may be that the whole production has a somewhat unfinished feel, suggesting that this might have been designed to be another production line magical girl show. It does feel like a couple of the creative people fought this, but their victory was not complete leading to an uneasy combination of elements.

None of the sites I source from have a review of this title. Indeed there is very little information on this title at all.  - Credit to entry source -

Hell Girl - Jigoku shouju

The story revolves around a girl named Ai Enma. Her existence is known only by a small group of people, and most of these people know her instead by the name Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl). Something of which the existence is known of just as much would be the service that she is rumored to provide, which is also far from common knowledge. It is this service for which she is known as Jigoku Shoujo.

Ai's service consists of carrying out grudges on the behalf of the people who request her service. The means of requesting her service has changed with time, with the latest means being a website known as the Jigoku Tsuushin (Hotline to Hell). This website is once again only known by a small group of people, often in the form of urban legend. It is only accessible exactly at midnight, and can usually only be seen by those who bear significantly powerful grudges. There is very little content on the website, and it consists of only a message, a text box, and a 'send' button. If one is to receive Ai's service, they have to enter the name of the person they have a grudge against in the text box, and send it.

After a request has been sent to Ai, she will usually investigate the client (the person who requested), and/or the would be victim. She often does this by supernatural means, and for various reasons, through which she decides whether to give her service or not to a client. She usually has her companions investigate the situation, and sometimes she joins in with them too. If she accepts the client's request, she will approach the client and hand them a straw doll, which is actually one of her companions transformed. She will then explain the terms of her service, which state that if the client wishes to continue, he or she must pull the red string tied around the neck of the straw doll. After doing so, Ai will take the person who the client sent the name of immediately to hell. However, by pulling the red string, the client agrees to the condition of her service, which states that he or she will also be sent to hell, but only after his or her natural life comes to an end.  Credit to: Hell girl wiki
